Just to clarify for any new writers and to refresh for all of our old ones there are a few things that we ask of you when you plan to submit a story.
Length
- Please keep the overall length of the story between 6 and 8 comic pages. We are aiming for 8 pages ideally, we can make exceptions, but it should be no more than 12 finished comic pages in length.
- Please be kind to us for assembly purposes and make your story an even number of pages, this will save our sanity.
- We don't have separate title pages. Please write a suitable splash page or something similar for the title of your piece as well as writing and art credits.
- This story must stand alone. It is okay to send us something that ties in with another story you've written, but the story must be able to be understood without reading the additional material. It must be one whole short story. Not a chapter, not an excerpt, and not a cliffhanger.
- Using characters that exist in your other work (i.e. owned by you) is okay, but the script must represent a complete story with a clear ending. The Anthology isn't meant to give people partial stories or to set up future issues.
- Your script will be reviewed by our editorial board for grammar, content, plot, etc. In some cases, we will request that changes be made, though we will try to keep any edits minimal.
We are making this book accessible to a wide audience.
- If your story contains unnecessary profanity, racial slurs or hate speech, we reserve the right to edit that material out. (We are not excluding all profanity, the occasional "hell" or "damn" is fine.)
- No gratuitous violence. You can show violence, but not unnecessary or excessive blood and gore.
- No gratuitous sex. You can have sex in your story but the visuals need to remain PG-13.
- Adult themes are fine but they should be used to strengthen your story and not as a crutch.
Comics are typically self rated, there is no independent body that rates comics. Marvel, DC and others self-rate.
