Here's a recap of the meeting. If I missed any details or I have made an error, please comment so I can make an update!
We started out talking about Anthology Volume 1, the signing event and the Kickstarter.
AV1 Page Deadline: This is July 1st and it is fast approaching! If you have unfinished work please get it finished and submitted by the deadline!
AV1 Signing: A tentative date of September 13th (the second Saturday) has been set for the signing event. EVERYONE should plan to attend this event, so if this date does not work for you, please let Travis know as soon as possible! We hope to have the date finalized in the next couple of weeks. The event will be held at Coy's Comics in Saginaw and it will be an all-day event. I don't think anyone will be required to spend the entire day there, we just need you to show up and be prepared to sign a few hundred copies of AV1.
The Kickstarter: This has done amazingly well! We are well on our way to funding Anthology Volume 2 in addition to AV1! So keep sharing this on your social media, tell all your friends, family and neighbors and the people you meet on the street. Tell everyone!
Then we discussed several upcoming events and deadlines. As each date approaches I will make a post with full details so that you won't miss out on any of these exciting events or forget about an important deadline.
Source Point Press Horror Anthology: The submission deadline is Monday July 7th and the theme is werewolves. If you have a short story, poem or grayscale artwork that is related to werewolves please send in a submission for the opportunity to be published in this anthology. Please send submissions directly to Source Point Press.
Barnes and Noble Batman's 75th Anniversary Event: This in-store event will be on the actual date of Batman's 75th anniversary, which is Wednesday July 23rd. We will not be able to sell anything at this event but we can give out free handouts, do sketches (like at the previous Sketch Events) and take commissions. This will be at the Saginaw location of Barnes and Noble. (Address: 3311 Tittabawassee Rd, Saginaw, MI 48604)
File Preparation Seminar: At some point in July Sean Seal will be doing a tutorial at Coy's Comics in Saginaw on how to properly prepare your files for printing. For AV2 we are requiring that all art submitted is a properly prepared digital file or on 11x17 bristol paper. The size of bristol paper selected is because when it is scanned to the computer it already has the correct aspect ratio and will not need to be digitally edited. You can purchase the proper paper at Coy's (if you face a financial hardship, please contact us and we can get you the paper at low to no cost, and totally confidentially.)
Sketch Event: The Sketch Events have gone very well! Hopefully we will be able to plan another for August. We are also planning an event at Green Brain Comics in Dearborn on a Saturday this fall. We will arrange a carpool for this mini-comic convention. (Be prepared to bring your other projects, prints and comics!)
AV2 Script Submission Deadline: This is an absolutely non-negotiable deadline - you MUST have your script submitted by September 1st to be included in AV2. We are looking for 20 writers for this edition. If you've already submitted your script, thankyou! If it needs more work, please dedicate some time to that project.
GrandCon Gaming and Comics Convention: This is a three day event in September from the 19th to the 21st. The MCC will be there in Grand Rapids for the full three days with three (hopefully four) tables that we would love for our artists and writers to sit at and promote their work and the Michigan Comics Collective. We are looking for eight people.
Detroit Fanfare: This event will be in Dearborn, MI in late October of this year. We expect to have an MCC table at this event. As more information about the convention becomes available I will post updates. You can visit their facebook page for the most current information.
And as we wrapped up we talked about AV2 and the coming changes to the MCC website.
Anthology Volume 2: This is just getting started! I mentioned the script submission deadline above, but we also talked about writer and artist teams, which we will be finalizing after all the scripts have been submitted. What I need from you all now (or at least sooner rather than later) is a short summary of what your story is about if you are a writer and for you to describe your vision for your story: do you see it in a certain style? If you are an artist I need a link to some of your work, for you to send me some of your work, or for you to describe your style and if you have preferences about what kind of story you want to illustrate please share that with me as well (i.e. if you hate vampires I won't pair you with a vampire story.) If you already have someone in mind that you want to work with please tell me that also! We want everyone to be in positive working partnerships where we can all develop as creators and professionals, and hopefully form some lasting friendships as well.
See our working list of AV2 Writers and Artists here. After we have all the scripts in hand we will make the final writer-artist teams, see the working list here.
MCC Website: Our current website will be undergoing some changes and updates. We had our new web developer Mike Kelly on hand for AMA, most of the questions naturally came from me. I am very excited for the roll-out of added functionality and overall improvements. Expect the new website in September.
We finished up our meeting and many people headed to Coy's Comics where there was not actually any pie.
Update on Detroit Fanfare: This will NOT be in late October - it has been moved to February 2015
