There were several topics covered in the October meeting.
Upcoming events:
There will be a sketch event on October 25th at the Green Brain Comics store in Dearborn. They will be celebrating their grand reopening.
The Sketch Cover Auction will be after the holidays in the beginning of 2015. The covers will be displayed at our three affiliate stores. The bidding will be done ONLINE over a two week period.
We had great success at GrandCon (September 19-21) but there were also a few issues. So we will have a modified action plan for the Motor City Comic Con (May 15-17 2015).
We will have four 3-day passes and we are looking for people who can attend all three days. If you can only attend one day you will need to purchase your own pass but there will be space for you at the table. We may be able to work out sharing a 3-day pass between people who can only attend one day.
In addition to that not everyone needs to go to every Comic Con event, and MCC would like to be represented at all the events in the area, the large ones and the single day events. So there will be more opportunities to attend events for everyone. We want everyone to have opportunities and we want to be as fair as possible concerning who has a pass for events.
Concerning our fiscal sustainability: all projects should be self-funding. We will continue to use Kickstarter for the yearly anthology but any other project will need to stand on its own.
If you have spent money of your own (aside from gas/mileage) to help promote the MCC, please save your receipt and you will be reimbursed.
The retail price for the Anthology is $25. Distributors pay MCC $15. The current distribution method is actually driving the books to the comic shops. If distributors can pay for the books up front that is awesome, but if not we can have them sold on consignment (MCC gets paid after you get paid).
New Projects will require a contract, which will be a modified version of the contract used by Image.
AV2 is coming along nicely. It will have a splash page by artist Ryan Stegman and an unnamed accomplice. If you are this artist or know the name of this artist please comment so I can update!
We are currently at 22 scripts (too many!) so we will have to use a couple for another project so that we can get down to 20 to avoid going over 200 pages.
The two scripts not going in the anthology will be going into a smaller project: MCC Presents. To get into this book you will need to have already premiered in an MCC anthology, so as of now AV1.
We will print around 100 copies and if it does well, we'd like to do four per year.
This first MCC Presents will be a trial run. We will be asking the creators to help promote by organizing signings, talking to shop owners and orchestrating other publicity stunts.
Just to clarify: everyone starts out at the anthology level. From there you could be selected for the MCC Presents. And if you do well with MCCP you can be considered for a stand alone comic (one shot).
The editorial group is going to have a meeting to finalize details and split the scripts into three groups: (1) ready for production, (2) nearly ready and (3) needs more work.
